REASONS WHY ADDED SUGAR IS HARMFUL TO HEALTH

DEFINE ADDED SUGAR:

Added sugar is the sugar or syrups that are added to soft drinks or beverages during their processing or preparation.

According to the American heart association, women should not consume more than 100 calories which is 6 teaspoons, and for men, it is 150 calories which are 9 teaspoons.

4 REASONS WHY ADDED SUGAR IS HARMFUL:

1.   WEIGHT GAIN:

The rate of obesity is increasing day by day across the world. The main culprit of this problem is sugar-sweetened beverages. Sweetened soft drinks consume a high rate of fructose, which is the form of simple sugar.

The use of fructose in high amounts increases your hunger and desire for food more than glucose.

The use of more amount of fructose leads to resistance to leptin, which is the hormone that regulates hunger and tells your body to stop eating.

So, in other words, we can say that the use of sweetened soft drinks curbs your hunger and makes it easily quickly to consume a high number of liquid calories. So, it can lead to weight gain.

2.    INCREASED RISK OF HEART DISEASE:

A high sugar diet leads to an increase in the risk of heart disease, which is the number one cause of death in the world.

Research shows that a high sugar diet can lead to obesity, inflammation, blood sugar, etc. which are all the risk factors which are associated with heart problems.

High-sugar diets like soft drinks, beverages, etc. are associated with atherosclerosis, a disease that occurs due to the clogging of fatty materials in the arteries of the heart.

3.   INCREASE THE RISK OF DIABETES

The rate of diabetes is doubled in recent years all over the world. There are many reasons but the main one is the consumption of high sugar products.

The use of high-sugar foods leads to resistance to insulin, which is the hormone that regulates sugar levels.

Resistance to insulin increases blood sugar levels which causes diabetes.

Other studies have also shown that people who consume sugar-sweetened beverages, including soft drinks, are more likely to develop diabetes.

4.   INCREASE THE RISK OF CANCER

Consumption of a high amount of sugar may lead to an increase in the risk of cancer.

First, high-sugar foods cause diabetes, which significantly leads to cancer.

Second, eating high-sugar foods causes inflammation in your body and resistance to insulin, so both may lead to certain cancers.

A study in over 430,000 people found the use of added sugar was positively associated with an increased risk of esophageal cancer, pleural cancer, and cancer of the small intestine.
